Abstract
Abstract
Information on data quality is important for effective use of GIS data. It impacts the credibility of data representation and the confidence that is attached to data interpretations. It impacts the reliability of interpretations and thus decision making based on GIS modeling and data exploration. A number of impediments to representing data quality can be cited, including impediments to definition and assessment, to attribution in a database, and to graphical depiction. This paper elaborates on impediments to representing data quality. The discussion provides a window through which the complexity of representing data quality may be viewed, and to introduce current research efforts and avenues for further research addressing each impediment.
Résumé
L'information sur la qualit des donnes est importante pour un usage des donnes des SIG. Elle a un impact sur la crdibilit de la reprsentation des donnes et la confiance que l'on attache l'interprtation des donnes. Elle a un impact sur la fiabilit de l'interprtation et par consquent, sur la prise de dcision base sur la modlisation et l'exploration des donnes des SIG. On peut citer un certain nombre d'obstacles la reprsentation de la qualit des donnes, dont des obstacles a la dfinition et l'valuation, l'attribution dans une base de donnes et la reprsentation graphique. Dans cet article, on labore sur les obstacles la reprsentation de la qualit des donnes. La discussion ouvre une fenªtre par laquelle on peut voir la complexit de reprsenter la qualit des donnes et souligne les efforts actuels en recherche ainsi que les avenues de recherche supplmentaire pour traiter chaque obstacle.
